SUBJECT:   Presentation of Draft ADA Assessment and Transition Plan

TOWN COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED ON:  No action required at this time

PURPOSE:
For the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to view a presentation by Stewart, Inc. regarding Elon's ADA Assessment and Transition Plan. 

FACTS AND ISSUES:
  1. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that state and local governments and other public entities perform self-assessments of their current facilities and programs regarding accommodations for those with disabilities. These agencies are also required to prepare a transition plan to address any deficiencies.
  2. In June of 2020, the Town entered into a contract with Stewart to assist us with the self-assessment and transition plan. The plan is currently in draft format and scheduled to be complete in the fall. 
  3. Stewart will make a presentation to the Board during their August 2, 2021 meeting, with a request for adoption of the completed plan to be made following the end of the required public input period (August 16th). The final plan will be provided to the Board in advance of that request. 
  4. The public is encouraged to complete a survey regarding this project, made available on the Town's website at https://www.townofelon.com/americans-with-disabilities-act-self-assessment-and-transition-plan/ada-transition-plan-survey/
